Lodhi Garden DelhiLodhi Garden, little oasis in middle of Delhi
Known as Mecca of lovers, Lodhi Garden is just beside the India International Center. It is only three kilometers away from Humayun’s Tomb.

Lodhi Garden is a well maintained garden of the fifteenth-sixteenth century. It was established by the Sayyids and Lodis over an area of ninety acres and is now protected by Archeological Survey of India.

Inside Lodhi Garden
A visit to Lodhi Garden can give you the feel of 15th century. The garden contains the following:

Mohammed Shah’s Tomb, built in 1444 by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah (the last Sayyid dynasty ruler)

Sikander Lodhi’s Tomb, built in 1517 by son Ibrahim Lodhi
Sheesh Gumbad
Bara Gumbad
Architectural works of Sayyid and Lodhis
Pathan dynasty ruins which ruled much of the Northern India during sixteenth century

Lodhi Garden in History
During the Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties there were two villages around the monuments that grew. In 1936 the villagers were relocated to create gardens. The place was landscaped during the British Raj by Lady Willingdon, the wife of Governor-Generald of India, Marquess of Willington. Then it was also renamed as Lady Willingdon Park, inaugurated on April 9, 1936. In 1947 the garden was named as Lodhi Gardens.

Lodhi Garden is a good place for Delhites and tourists to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. During afternoon the garden is thronged by couples seeking solitude. As a photographer one can spend the day photographing birds, monuments, flora and fauna. The garden is home to several species of birds.

Lodhi Garden is also a favourite place for joggers, fitness enthusiasts and also morning walkers. It is also a fine picnic spot in winters.
