Buddha GardenCreated on the occasion of 250th anniversary of Gautama Buddha’s enlightenment, Buddha Jayanti Park is one of the famous tourist spots in New Delhi. It is located in the southern part of Delhi ridge and is favorite to Delhites and tourists.

The important thing to notice at Buddha Jayanti Park is that a sapling of the original Bodhi Tree, under which Gautama Buddha attained Nirvana, from Sri Lanka was brought and planted here. Sanghamitra, Emperor Asoka’s daughter, from Bodh Gaya took a sapling of the original Bodh tree and went to Sri Lanka to preach park.

Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima, is celebrated here every year in the month of May. On October 1993 the park was dedicated to 14th Dalai Lama.
