Hans Raj College was set up in
1948 in the
memory of Mahatma Hans Raj, the founder of
DAV College in Lahore. For the
first six years, it functioned from one of the
DAV schools on Chitragupta Road. The present 15-acre campus was inaugurated in
1954 by the then President of India,
Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The college is now known for its
high cutoffs, sports, and international exchange programmes with the
Chancellor’s Trophy for excellence in sports for four years in a row.
Principal VK Kawatra says: “We also probably have the
best shooting range in the university. Six of championship in Germany last year. Hans Raj been the best in the
science stream for several years”.

The college has a well equipped
wooden badminton court besides a
shooting range and facilities for archery,
water polo, basketball and cricket. Its library has over
135,000 books. The canteen is spacious and can seat nearly
150 people at one time.
