Delhi Metro Train

Delhi has always been known for crush of mechanical and human traffic, but now things have changed with Delhi Metro rail service operating at a full swing to every corner of New Delhi and Old Delhi. It has brought a pleasant smile to delhites here and also to the tourists who now saves lots of money in transportation within the city.

Delhi Metro History
The concept of bringing metro rail service to Delhi was formalized as early as 1960 but it took almost two decades to make the legal framework. In 1978 Metro Railways (Construction of Works) Act came into existence. The actual work however started as late as 1995 when the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) was established and the physical construction works in fact started on October 1, 1998.

Delhi Metro LogoThe first line of Delhi Metro was opened for public on December 24, 2002. The first phase of work ended three years before the scheduled time and BusinessWeek (business magazine) described this achievement of DMRC as "nothing short of a miracle."

Delhi Metro Routes
There are three lines of Delhi Metro at present. Those are Red Line, Yellow Line and Blue Line of 25.15, 17.36 and 34.20 kms respectively. The total length of Delhi Metro currently is 76.7 kms and it covers 68 stations. More than 60 trains runs from morning 6 to 11 at night on these routes.

Delhi Metro has been extensively shown in few of the below mentioned Bollywood movies:

  • Bewafaa (2005)
  • Black & White (2008)
  • Delhi6 (2009)
  • Dev D (2009)
