Delhi Metro History

Delhi Metro LogoThe first line of Delhi Metro was opened for public on December 24, 2002. The first phase of work ended three years before the scheduled time and BusinessWeek (business magazine) described this achievement of DMRC as "nothing short of a miracle."

Delhi Metro Routes

There are three lines of Delhi Metro at present. Those are Red Line, Yellow Line and Blue Line of 25.15, 17.36 and 34.20 kms respectively. The total length of Delhi Metro currently is 76.7 kms and it covers 68 stations. More than 60 trains runs from morning 6 to 11 at night on these routes.And for any further query you can refer to the map placed near the ticket counter or you can ask at the ticket counter or the people or police at the metro station.Be very much sure to know from where to change the train Some easy and convenient ticket service.

Delhi Metro won OSCAR award in 2008 in Paris for innovative concepts in service category. The ‘Delhi Metro-Citibank’ credit card was considered in the OSCAR for ‘Innovation in Service’ as the best amongst all other nominations.

Automatic Ticketing :

Delhi Metro has introduced, for the first time in the country, ticketing and passenger control through a completely Automatic Fare Collection system.

The ticket, which could be a card or a token, is purchased from the Ticket Counter. The passenger then proceeds to one of several gates that separate the Paid Area from the Unpaid Area. Here, the passenger will hold the ticket close to the machine to the right of the gate. If valid, the gates will open automatically, and the passenger can pass to the Paid Area. If not valid, then the passenger will need to contact the Customer Service Staff.

Ticket Option for the Customers :

- Single-Journey Token: For one way journey
- Value will depend on the destination. Valid only on the day of purchase.
- Minimum fare 8/- and maximum fare 30/c.

Travel Card:
Most convenient for the frequent commuter. A stored value card, Travel Cards are available in the denominations of 50/- and can be recharged in a multiples of 50/- to a maximum limit of 800/-. Deposit of 50/- payable at purchase (refundable on return of card)
- Refundable Deposit: 50/- only
- Validity: One Year from the date of purchase or one year from the date of recharge whichever is later.
- Renewal: No extra charge
- Facility to check balance on Card: Ticket Reading Machines at all Metro Stations. 

Tourist Card:

For unlimited travel over short periods. There are two kinds of cards - 1 day and 3 day.
- Value of 1-Day Card: 100/-
- Value of 3-Day Card: 250/-
- Refundable Deposit: 50/- payable at purchase (refundable on return of card)
