Has India lost Her Charm?

Miss Universe Angola Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe 2011 at the 60th Miss Universe pageant, held in San Paolo, Brazil.

India's dry run at the Miss Universe contest continued as Vasuki Sunkavalli failed to make it to the final 16 at the Miss Universe 2011 contest here. Earlier, the 27-year-old was disappointed as she could not pose in her national costume because it was not delivered on time.

It is disappointing that India hasn't won the crown since 2000. It was model-turned actress Lara Dutta who had won the crown for India in that year. A feat, which is as remarkable as, it is amazing. Previous winners have included Priyanka Chopra (2000), Yukta Mookhey (99'), Diana Hayden (97'), Aishwarya Rai (94') and Reita Faria (66').

Beauty pageant “Miss India Universe” is held every year and the winner of the same represents India in Miss Universe Contest. Till now Ms Sushmita Sen and Ms. Lara Dutta from our country have been coroneted in this prestigious contest in 1994 and 2000, respectively.
