Rashtrapati Bhavan New Delhi

Apart from being the capital of India, Delhi is a fascinating city with pleasant contradictions. Comprising of Old Delhi and New Delhi, the city is home to famous tourist destinations like the Laxmi Narayan Temple, India Gate, Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and the vivacious shopping bazaar of Chandni Chowk. One such tourist attraction in Delhi is the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India. President's palace or the Rashtrapati Bhavan situated on the Rajpath is the official residence of the President of India. Until 1950, when India became a republic, it was known as "Viceroy's House" and was being used as the residence of the Governor-General of India. You cannot enter the Rashtrapati Bhawan without permission, but aesthetes wait for spring when the Mughal garden inside the Bhawan is thrown open to public.
 

You will see that there is a Durbar Hall inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi and the dome of the hall measures 22.8 meters in diameter. The hall is marked by the beautiful colored marbles. You can see the Viceroy's throne in this hall. Today, the Durbar Hall is the major venue of all official ceremonies of the Indian Government such as the oath taking ceremony by the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and the Members of Parliament. The Arjuna Awards for Excellence is also presented in this hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan Lying to the west of the President's house; the Mughal Gardens are a home to myriad flower species and exotic roses that cheer up the ambience in February.
Plan your visits during February, so that you can also behold the colourful medley of exotic flowers at the Mughal Gardens. As the Mughal garden, displaying numerous types of roses remains open to the public only in the month of February when the flowers gloriously bloom.

Besides this to the west of the Rashtrapati Bhawan, there is a wonderful Mughal garden which is open to the public every spring.

How to Reach:
The parliament street adjacent to the Delhi Rashtrapati Bhawan prohibits the bus service but you can reach the Rashtrapati Bhawan by hired taxi or auto rickshaws. General public cannot enter the Delhi Rashtrapati Bhawan.
 


Entrance:
Visitors require special permission from Government of India Tourist Office to enter Rastrapathi Bhavan.

Location:
The Rashtrapati Bhavan built on the Raisina Hill is located on the western end of the Rajpath just about a mile away from Connaught Place.

Must-see:
An important added attraction of the Rashtrapati Bhavan is the "change of guards" ceremony that takes place on the premises of the Rashtrapati Bhavan every Saturday.
