Karna Lake

 

Karna Lake is beautifully landscaped with tourist facilities designed along the water front. Lake is located about 5 km north of Karnal on the Delhi-Amritsar highway, came into existence in 1972. Covering 17 acres and built imaginatively on a marshy and shallow land, the lake complex fascinates with its greens.

 

 

The tourist attractions have grown with time. The lake derives its name from the town of Karnal, a place that celebrates Karna, one of the heroes of the epic Mahabharata. Though there are hints of antiquity in and around the town, no concrete evidence about its ancient traditions can be seen here.

 

The structures around the shimmering emerald coloured lake provide some of the most delightful luxuries for tourists. You will find that the designer decorated guestrooms look out on the lake, with each room facing landscaped surroundings. The tall eucalyptus shut off the din of the highway. A well-equipped conference hall is an integral part of the complex, replete with steno cabin and allied facilities.
Besides all this there are number of places of interest here, like the Kala Amb memorial, an obelilsk commemorating the third battle of Panipat. Two ancient inscribed red pillars have been discoverd in Amin, and Bahlolpur is connected with the famous duel between Bhima and Duryodhana (of the Mahabharata). Duryodhana had hidden himself in a water tank, but came out after being jeered by Bhima, only to die at his hands.

Likewise Whistling Teal Restaurant, bar, ice-cream parlour, lounge-cum-conference room, new conference hall, boating, angling, a gift shop, snack shop and spacious lawn for picnickers.The resort is popular among highway travellers and the people of Karnal, who love to stop for picnics in the lawns by the lake.
