The great grandfather of Karim’s was the chef in the Mughal emperors’ royal kitchen. The royal employment came to an end in 1857 during the year of mutiny. In 1911 Karim’s ancestors opened a Dhaba at the Delhi Durbar held for the coronation of King George V. Subsequently in the Jama Masjid area the Karim Hotel was established.
