The Delhi Airport Metro Express Limited (DAMEL) has announced its plans to run trains for 24 hours on the occasion of Christmas Eve, aiming to facilitate the midnight mass visiting in central Delhi's Sacred Heart Cathedral on December 25.
The Sacred Heart Cathedral is close to the Shivaji Stadium station on the Airport Express Line, conducts midnight mass which continues till 3 a.m. on the day of Christmas. The DAMEL's initiative of 24-hour metro service is intended to help commuters by providing a safe and hassle-free transport.
The extended services were arranged by the Reliance Infrastructure, the consortium that operates the line.
In addition, Reliance Infra will also arrange for bus service at DAMEL's Dwarka Sector-21 station, which will run during the night time to pick and drop commuters from Dwarka area.
Presently, Reliance Metro Airport Line is running with a ridership of around 20,000 per day and is expecting to attract additional travellers after the commencement of the international check-in facility. The domestic check-in facility is already operational at Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi and Dhaula Kuan stations of DAMEL.
